THE MYTHICAL HOUSEKEEPING PROJECT
In august of 2022, I wrote a manifesto called "The Mythical Housekeeping Project". As the title said, it was more of a bigger project than a manifesto. I had wanted to reshape the Mythical community to solve many of the issues we were facing, as well as unite us more. It was a big goal! Of course, I couldn't do it alone. One thing led to another, and I eventually dropped it altogether, without even telling its audience.
The project itself aimed to tackle a few different problems. Most generally, the word "Mythical". As you probably gathered reading about our community, we don't really fit the definition of the word. In short, "Mythical" Implies we aren't real, when we very much are. Because of how disjoined the community is, it's very hard for us to collectively come up with something new, especially since to my knowledge, we've been calling ourselves Mythical for as long as we've existed in the first place. I had said that us agreeing on a new name was a big step forward to fixing many of the other issues as well, since it proved that we could act together when needed.
The second problem I had pointed out was our uncoordination. We're a scattered group. The book writing site we almost exclusively base on doesn't lend itself to communication very well. Especially since we don't have a proper name and the #mythical tag is also full of actual books. We avians have the Alation Amino, but Amino isn't that much better, and Alation itself had perma-locked itself since I wrote MHK. I proposed finding another socmed to add to the ones we already communicate on, preferabbly a blogging site where it'd be easier to talk to each other, but the comments started talking about discord and guilded, which are just as closed off as Amino.
As I said in the manifesto, no sugarcoating it. We look like a cult. We aren't a cult! I still hate the present day obsession kids my age have with them and I think it gives us the wrong image. We're mostly a younger community, and I was afraid for us. The "Mythical Hunting Organization" talked about it firsthand. You'll notice by spending just about any time here that strange projects that are meant to benefit everyone crop up, but the creator is clearly power hungry and thinks of themself as a messiah. That was something I was trying not to do when I started my own project. I'm not some savior of the community and I don't want to be seen as such, I'm just some guy trying to get the ball moving to fix some of the issues we've faced for years.
It's probably clear by the fact that these issues are still here, but this project didn't go anywhere. It was something I cared about, and I still do care about it! The Mythical community is very important to me. But I didn't expect to get the amount of eyes on me that I did so fast, and it was stressful suddenly having hundreds of people watching me and hoping for my input. Of course I should've seen it coming, I was trying to speak to everyone, but it was a lot for me. Especially since I only realized afterward that I didn't have the energy to make any hands-on changes myself.
Not to mention that the guy I was hoping to work on this project with was extremely annoying and I hated him, but just in case he's reading this pretend I didn't say that or something.
