COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

If you've been in the community for- Honestly any amount of time, you'll have come across many misconceptions. This is but a fun quirk of having a community based on wattpad, communication is difficult and issues like this are very hard to iron out. Whether you're new to everything, or just want to make sure you've got everything right, I hope you find some use with this page.
Most of these will be avian related, as that's my field but some will be general Mythical info as well!

Aviae are bird/human hybrids

No Mythical type is inherently nonhuman. If you were human before this, you're still human. Your wings don't change that. You have human wings. They didn't come from an outside source, right? You don't have any bird DNA in you, that's just what human wings look like.

Wings can suddenly sprout from your back

This is also referred to as "wing bursting". I'm talking fully developed, full-size wings. You probably don't need me to tell you, but this is impossible. You can't have 20-30 feet worth of limbs in your back, and then suddenly have them sprout like that. Not to mention how painful it would be to have them not only grow instantaneously, but also break the skin and come out of your back.

Sidenote: There is something called the blooming theory, which explains the possibility of wings fully developing (not growing) in your back, and then slowly blooming out. Small, but fully realized wings, not yet at their full wingspan, growing out from there.

Mythicality is not something you choose, it's meant for you

This goes hand in hand with the similar misconceptiond that not everyone can be a Mythical/grow wings, and that Mythicals aren't human. There is no such thing as not being meant for it. Fate does not matter here. Of course, this is a big decision to make. It will completely turn your life upside down, but all you need is to want to do it.
Many Aviae, myself included, are here because of a calling. This is something I am meant to do. It's my fate to do this, but it doesn't have to be yours. It may not be right for you on a personal level, but there's no higher power involved. It's just not your thing.

We are not separate from any other human in this world, and any Mythical who says otherwise is either simply mistaken, or trying to find an enemy in a place where there is none.

Wings can only be "natural" colors

Admittedly, I'm being a little bit of a hater here. This is something that most people do believe, but I personally don't. The consensus is that your wings will generally have the same pigment genes as your hair, which makes sense, sure. Birds have some really weird colors. If they can do it, why can't we? I didn't pick my wing color, and I'm not sure you can, but I don't think the "unnatural" colors are really impossible.

Wings are retractable

This is probably very clear already, but just in case: wings can not be retractable. You can't retract your arms into your body, how can you get a limb of that size in there? You'd look like a brick of flesh like that anyway, there's nowhere in your body for your wings to go.

AWTOK

If you don't know what AWTOK is, it's a government ogranization that captures and experiments on Mythicals. AWTOK is also not real. It was made up by maximum ride roleplayers back in the day. Of course, there's a pretty good chance of a similar organization out there, but if it exists, we are not aware of it. It's understandable to believe in it and many people still do, because let's face it- everyone wants to feel like a main character, being chased by a big bad villain.

We are also not aware of any hunting organizations, though they may exist in circles of Mythicals who's journeys are finished.

Hunters are everywhere

Just because AWTOK isn't real doesn't mean you're completely safe. Hunters are real! They'er just not as numerous as you're lead to believe. I promise you that your parents are not hunters, and your teachers most likely aren't. Of course, you should always be careful and hide your progress as much as you can, but death and violence is not around every corner. Most people don't have a reason to dislike us aside from simply being judgemental.

The Storm is coming

The Storm is a fabled war between "Mythicals and humans". Every few years, it circles back around in the community as something that's happening soon. Pretty clearly, it's not. You hear people saying "it's going to happen soon! Everyone be on your toes!" and then their prophecised date passes by without a word and it happens all over again later. It's just another case of wanting to feel like a main character. The side effects of a younger community, shaking my head.
