OTHER MYTHICAL TYPES
So, you heard about all this avian stuff, but it just doesn't interest you. You think the whole concept of Mythicality is good, but you don't want wings and all that. I've got good news! The community is more than just us avians. Of course, you'll find more resources for us because we're the majority, but there's other stuff here too. Here are some examples, while I'm not very well versed in all of them.
SHIFTERS
Maybe not exactly the kind you're thinking here. Not the craze that was everywhere online a while ago (while there is a lot of both kinds here), I mean shape shifting! Most popularly, wolf shifters. I think dragons and mermaids are also popular, but dragons are often included with avians and mermaids as their own type. Many types fit under shifting as an umbrella term.
In fact, I think avian is one of the only ones that don't! Shapeshifting is defined by what it is in fantasy, changing your form into something new. What separates a bird shifter from an avian is the fact that avians are slowly growing permanent wings, while bird shifters can only have them temporarily. That doesn't mean shifting is better, though. From what we know, you can generally only shift into something with the same mass as yourself. You can't create or destroy yourself, only change it.
This is one of the easier types to find resources for on both wattpad and youtube (well, depends on the thing you're shifting into). This one's also easy to adapt information you find to fit your own more specific label
NEKOS
Nekos, nekomimi, kemonomimi, all suitable names. Usually named "neko" because most kemonomimi in this community are cats. This one is exactly what it sounds like, you have animal ears and a tail. It tends to have overlap with shifters, and most kitsunes are also nekos. I think this used to be a much more popular type than it is now, but there's still a lot of good sources.
I would assume it's not popular now because animal ears arent... That useful. You would most likely still have to go into hiding over it, but you wouldn't be able to do much with them. You could fly with wings, you could shift into animals, but just keeping their ears and tail doesn't do much for you.
They were much more prolific when I first joined the community, and I have my own experiences as a kitsune, so nekos have a place in my heart as a Mythical type.
MAGICAL GIRLS
They don't immediately sound like something that would be part of our community, but they're basically Mythicality in its purest form! Magic powers, shifts, permanent changes (depending on the kind you are), they're Mythicals! They're an extremely popular Mythical type.
The kind of magical girl you are can vary, but they're generally exactly what they sound like. You get a magic transformation, a weapon (and usually extra powers to go with it), and a cute outfit! You can choose what MG media to base your own abilities off of, and you tend to fight the same kind of evil that exists there. For example, labyrinths are real, and you can choose to fight the witches in those if you'd like. Or you could just fight crime like a regular superhero.
KITSUNES
This is actually a relatively unpopular one that fits in quite a few other categories, but I'm including it as its own thing because it has a special place in my heart. A kitsune is someone who can shift into a kyubi or a kitsune, and has kitsune related abilities (ie: foxfire, energy manipulation, dream eating). Many kitsunes often have fox ears and tails when not shifted, or have them show up in reflections. It's not required, but many also have a "ball", usually a real ball, but it could be any object, that they get their abilities from. Kind of like a magical girl.
It's a little harder to find kitsune-specific resources, but it's also easy enough to adapt guides for other types to fit, especially with how broad being a kitsune can be.
OTHER
This one is special because it doesn't automatically make you a Mythical, yet most Mythicals have it: Any sort of kinetic ability. These are extremely common, as they make good self defence against a non-Mythical or a hunter, while also often being practical outside of fighting. I personally don't have one because I haven't found one that really speaks to me yet, but they're definitely deserving of how popular they are.
Slimebloods are an extremely unique Mythical type that I really felt the need to talk about here. Their names aren't meant to be taken literally, but it's a slime based type. What's interesting about it is that it's a completely artificial type. All other Mythical types sort of came to be naturally, no one stopped and said "I want to invent avians, or shifters, or nekos". The Slimeblood Experiment is a project on Wattpad that did do that. It has most likely been abandoned since, without really any resources on it, but I do wish it was more successful.
Another dubiously unpopular choice for a Mythical type is ghouls. If you've seen Tokyo Ghoul, it's basically that. This isn't a type I know too much about, so I can't properly explain it. But if that pitch interested you, Here is a good journal detailing the authors experiences with becoming one.
There are definitely many other Mythical types that I haven't written here. I don't know all of them, nor do I have much to say about all of them. If you can think of something that fits in this vein of strange abilities that makes us Mythical, it probably exists here. Feel free to do your own research, I'm (surprisingly) not the only person in this community.
